Notes
Due to continued flooding in the Kingman, AZ area, Mohave County needed to stabilize the Grace Neal Channel to prevent further erosion. The channel, originally designed with a cellular confinement system infilled with concrete, required a product that could withstand a maximum channel velocity of 15 fps.
Used as an alternate for rip rap and other hard armor systems, Flexamat is a concrete mat system that is uniquely designed to be quickly unrolled and deployed like a roll of geotextile. Working with Mohave County, Hanes Geo proposed Flexamat Tied Concrete Block Mat as an alternate material to the cellular confinement system. Flexamat’s faster installation led to a more economical solution and had the added benefit of supporting native revegetation in the channel.
The Grace Neal Channel project required 450,000 SF of Flexamat to get the job done. With a less labor-intensive installation than the original design, the contractor was able to keep the project under budget and completed on time.
